On September 22, we hosted a lecture by our visiting professor, Janice Yusze Tsoh, from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
In her lecture, titled “Immigrant Mental Health in Japan: Insights from a Narrative Review and Clinical Applications,” Professor Tsoh provided a comprehensive overview of the history and current status of immigration in Japan, as well as previous studies on foreign residents. She also offered practical guidance for mental health professionals on approaches that can be applied in clinical practice starting immediately.
The audience included faculty members, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, students, graduate students, and young physicians scheduled to join our department in the coming year. The lecture was highly informative and beneficial for both beginners and those in supervisory roles.
Following the lecture, participants engaged in a lively discussion on immigrant mental health, sharing insights and questions arising from clinical practice, research, and daily life.
This lecture was a valuable source of inspiration, and under the continued guidance of Professor Tsoh, we are committed to further developing our department’s clinical practice, research, and educational activities.
